This comic was alot of things at the time. I'd been drawing in a really tight brush style for some time when I began this, and I wanted a break. In addition to that, I'd been reading alot of Christophe Blain and Joann Sfar, both of whom have what appear to be "messy" drawing styles, when in fact both men are drawing in a very technically loose but compositionally tight manner. Everything in their panels is clear- there is no muddiness- but the hatching and linework seems to break every rule of inking. I longed to try this, as an antedote to what I felt was my tendency towards over-neatness.

In the beginning pages, I stumbled on the inking alot, but as it went on, I think I got the hang of it. Since this was meant mto be an experiment, I'm engouraging advanced critique on this one. (Jon C, this means you!)

I feel you've achieved your goal. Being something of a "dirty inker" (although we call that style :)) it's the opposite for me-I would like to ink in a tight clean manner. But no matter. Your inks here are exactly what you want IMO. It's still clear but it's not as super-tight. Very nice work indeed.

Not so much a farewell- it's just that the logo is what makes the whole rest of the comic believeable, and so I needed it to be a little more clean and logo-like than the other stuff.

great pull-back, the logo of the pony express looks great, nice and clean...a farewell to what I assume was a cleaner style, based on your description? very well done...
